Styling Dulux's Colour of the Year 2019

Wednesday, September 25, 2019

Dulux recently announced that their Colour of the Year 2019 is Tranquil Dawn, a beautiful laidback shade that sits somewhere between green, blue and grey. It works wonderfully with sandy tones, warm woods and cosy textures to create a soft, nurturing space. The colour is inspired by the morning sky and can be used to create spaces for care or for play, to find meaning or for creativity X.

I wanted to style a room around this colour and see what I could come up with. I went for a relaxing bedroom as this green-grey hue was calling out for some fresh pillowy bedding and lots of luxurious textures like mother of pearl, mango wood, velvet and linen. I added a few dashes of blush pink with the throw, chair and flower stem to stop the room from looking too washed out. Hope you like what I came up with! I think it's dreamy.

My favourite YouTube channels

YouTube is my TV - I do watch the odd show on catch-up but I generally just watch YouTube videos. Any hobby or interest you have, there's probably a channel for it.

I love watching people play video games despite not playing them myself (apart from The Sims, I ruddy love The Sims), I also love watching people draw silly stuff, build virtual houses, talk about movies, unbox awful kid's toys, laugh at Subreddits, and review weird junk. I'm so thankful for people who make these videos for our entertainment at NO COST to us, because lord knows what I'd do without them.

You'll be surprised to see that I don't subscribe to any interior design/decor related channels. I watch YouTube mostly to wind down, have a quick laugh and zone out, and if I ever want to watch something interior design-related, I just search for it. I'm more drawn to comedy, beauty, gaming and commentary, things that can play in the background while I mindlessly scroll through Pinterest for 2 hours.

I've separated the channels into 8 categories to make it easier to sift through.

Any channel with a ★ after it means it's one of my ultimate faves and I highly suggest you subscribe to them (if it's something you're interested in, obviously).

Commiserations & a bachelor's degree

Wednesday, September 18, 2019

Afternoon chaps. Hope you're having a wonderful Wednesday.

It's my favourite time of year! Autumn is the most beautiful season in my opinion. I may be biased as my favourite colours in the world - especially with clothing - are rust tones, so I find myself matching my surroundings a lot. It's still a little too early for crispy brown leaves and cool breezes (it's technically still summer until the 23rd) but I am full of anticipation. I have my scarf out ready, my coats have been dusted off, and I've recently bought some new thick leggings and tights to keep me toasty. I've already broken out the fluffy socks and dressing gown which gives me a lot of joy.

To begin, I want to say thank-you to anyone reading this who voted for me in the Amara Interior Blog Awards this year. I was nominated for Best Interior Lifestyle Blog but sadly I wasn't shortlisted. I'm over the moon to have been nominated and to have been among some very good company, but not everyone can make it, so I'm going to give it another go next year.

In better news, I have decided to continue my education with the National Design Academy - I'm going to be doing a bachelor's degree in Interior Design! A 3 year long course that I'll be doing online just like my diploma, hopefully starting in mid-October. I'm currently (very impatiently) waiting for Student Finance England to get back to me on whether my application is successful, then I have to get in touch with the NDA and let them know it's been approved. I've already sent and received back my identity form and evidence so I'm not sure what's taking so long... but eh, I suppose they must have a lot to go through. My phone is practically glued to my hand because I'm constantly checking my emails for updates.

My family and I are going to Newcastle in November. We were going to go for my birthday next March but I'm impatient so we (I, lol) decided we should go in November for my brother's birthday instead. I really wanted a city break this year and Newcastle fits the bill. My brother's been loads of times and it looks like a great city, one that I've never been to, so I'm really looking forward to it. I keep going on Google Street View and wandering around the city centre so when we're there I might have an inkling on where to go. Some decent shopping and lots of gorgeous architecture.

If anyone has any Newcastle recommendations on places we should definitely visit or eat at please let me know! I'm clueless.

I've been... reading: Sustainable Home by Christine Liu and Liz Earle Wellbeing magazine. | Listening to: london, a playlist by Tabby Williams on Apple Music. | Eating: delicious butter chicken. | Watching: Taskmaster, best comedy game show on telly. | Buying: a new tube of Weleda Skin Food, second-hand shirts off eBay, and another OHTO ballpoint in hot pink.

Shared Moments A/W 2019 by Mango

"Disconnect to connect again. When the hectic routine overwhelms you, there’s nothing like planning a getaway with your friends. Returning to a simple life, surrounded only by nature, animals, music, succulent food and books is key to finding your truly inner you. Like Anna, Rebecca, Kaya, Mathias and Hugo, having fun in the scenic landscapes of Scotland. Sharing joy. Sharing good company. Sharing moments, together." X

"When was the last time you heard the sound of silence? Put on your wool sweater and take your friends for a walk in the forest. In winter there is no better feeling than this fuzzy fabric and the love from the ones you care about to keep you warm. In fact, it is all about doing things simply and naturally; that is why all the pieces in the Woman collection are made of recycled or ecological materials. We share the world, so let’s make it a more sustainable place together." X

"At the end of the day it’s time to light the fireplace in the cabin and gather around. The menu essentials for tonight are friends, fun and spontaneity. The spirit of the travellers who always look for new adventures to share in community, the ones that make the most of every moment. These images from Scotland could happen anywhere. Because more than the place, what really matters is the people you choose to experience them with." X

Pinterest mood board / 10

Thursday, September 05, 2019

September is here, which means autumn is well on its way. Thought it appropriate to do an autumnal Pinterest mood board to mark the occasion. ๐ŸŽƒ
