Goodbye, 2018

Just a few more days left before 2018 is over and we welcome in the new year.

I love fresh starts. January makes me want to reorganise my whole life, declutter the entire house, invest in a new skincare routine, write a to-do list as long as my arm etc. Not that I end up doing any of that stuff, but still. The idea's there.

It's hard to get anything done in between Christmas and the New Year because it's such a strange week of nothingness. Everyone loses track of time and the dark days all merge into one. At the moment I'm suffering through cold #2 of the year so my days are being spent in bed dosed up on cold and flu tablets until further notice. I am looking forward to the new year, however. I'm going to try my absolute hardest to stay awake until midnight this year (I fall asleep most of the time and the fireworks wake me up like the sad grandma I am).

I am looking forward to continuing with my coursework in January. I have two assignments due around the middle of the month; they're not the most fun or interesting assignments unfortunately, but once they're submitted I get to move onto the next module that looks a 100x cooler.

This month I started reading Queen Unseen by Peter Hince. It's fantastic so far. I love that it's been written by someone who was actually there with the band in the thick of it all, through the mid-70s to late-80s. He also has some amazing stories about Freddie.

Also been trying out the Nuxe Comforting Cleansing Milk with Rose Petals that I bought from Escentual some time during the Black Friday madness. I got two bottles for the price of one (Escentual have 1/3 off Nuxe in January, they always do really great deals so keep an eye out). I'm not sure what I was expecting from a cleansing 'milk' but I assumed you used it with water like a normal face wash but actually it's more like a creamy micellar water you use with a cotton pad.

I can't use this to take all my make-up off, but I like to use it after my foam face wash to clean up any leftovers and put the moisture back into my skin. It's also refreshing to use in a morning if you don't want to (or can't be bothered to, lol me) wash your face again. This is very gentle on my skin which I need when my skin is being a red, spotty, blotchy nightmare. I love the smell of rose, it reminds me of soap my great grandma used to use or those fancy fragranced drawer liners.

I had a lovely Christmas spent with family and I received (and gifted) some wonderful presents. Currently trying to decide what to spend my gift cards on but I'm finding it hard to commit to anything. Plus, online shopping is rubbish and I hate not being able to feel clothes and give them a tug and a stretch. Much prefer braving a shopping centre to find and examine the items in person rather than waiting a lifetime for things to be delivered in the post then waiting another lifetime to return them if they're not right. I have no patience, clearly.

I was gifted some delicious Burt's Bees lip balms that I have not stopped piling on my lips since Christmas day. I got a gorgeous tinted one (the shade Hibiscus) that is now my favourite nude lip ever. It is one of those 'your lips but better' colours, and gives such a nourishing gloss. My lips are thankful for the moisture.

Was also gifted a book on Queen and even though I was there when my mum bought it, it was so long ago I'd completely forgot. It made for a very nice surprise. There's nothing I love more in this world than old pictures of Queen from the 70s and this book is just full of them. There's so many I've never seen before and I'm well and truly obsessed.

Hope everyone has a great New Year's. If you want to keep up to date with any of my fantastic, clever and ever-so interesting thoughts and ramblings you can follow me on Twitter.
