Landscape paintings by Matthew Snowden

Friday, November 30, 2018

I absolutely adore Matthew Snowden's textured landscape paintings. I can't believe the level of detail and realism he achieves with a palette knife, his work is just so fascinating to look at. I've selected a few of my favourites to feature here but you'll find many more on Matthew's website (linked above).

You can currently see some of Matthew Snowden's artwork at Thackeray Gallery in London and Galeri Betws-y-coed in North Wales.

Winter wardrobe 2018

Thursday, November 29, 2018

Winter is my favourite season to dress for. I enjoy bundling up in chunky layers, oversized jumpers and big ol' padded coats. It makes me feel comfy and safe.

I've been fantasising about winter dressing since the middle of August and now it's Proper Cold™ in the UK it's finally time to break out the heavy duty stuff.

I have a pretty well-stocked winter wardrobe already, but it doesn't stop me looking at more beautiful winter bits online. I found quite a few to share with you, so if you're currently looking for some great quality pieces to keep you (or a loved one at Christmas) warm and stylish this winter this is the post for you. Happy shopping!

The Committed Collection by Mango

Friday, November 23, 2018

“Chaotic city. The dynamism of the skyline. Neon lights. Skyscrapers. Breathe and start travelling. Look for the beauty of natural landscapes. A setting where the fundamental embodies the original roots between design and nature. The peace and serenity of landscapes are presented in our IV Committed capsule collection. Biodegradable and recycled fibres project clarity and balance into soft fabrics representing calm in airy silhouettes. In this collection, white, dark brown and aubergine hues are displayed in minimalist cuts creating fashion pieces. Enjoy nature to the fullest and slow down. Our future is said to be urban, but we are still connected to our roots.”  X

Christmas shopping & cinema trips

Photo of this DIY wrapping paper taken from my copy of Tanya's Christmas

I finally started my Christmas shopping at the beginning of the month. I was so on it last year, I had all my presents bought and wrapped by October, but this year I've left it a little "late". I've made it my mission to shop from mostly independent businesses this year and so far I've done pretty well, I've managed to find some real gems that I think my family will love.

I've not quite done with shopping yet - I have a few more people to buy for - but I'm waiting (im)patiently for pay day so I can tick a few more presents off my list and stock up on gift bags. I've never been able to master wrapping so I tend to just bag everything and leave it at that. I'm the laziest gift wrapper that's ever existed.

This year I've reined the Christmas hype in a bit. Usually at this point in the year I have the Christmas vinyl out, I've decorated my room etc. but this year I'm waiting until the very end of the month so I don't get tired of it quickly. I haven't listened to a single Christmas song yet this year, I'm proud of myself. I don't know how I've managed it.

In other news, I went to see Bohemian Rhapsody last Sunday. It was phenomenal. I have listened to and loved Queen for years, but this film just had so much heart and soul that when I listen to their music now I feel so much more. There's so much emotion and love in the lyrics that I'd never paid attention to before, and the way the film tells Freddie's story made me feel like I got to know him and the band personally. It was just so epic. You feel every song in your core.

I've also started the second module of my Interior Design course. This one is a bit trickier and has some assignments that are going to require a couple of days to work on, so I'm a bit nervous to start. I've decided to get the shorter and easier assignments out of the way first then work on the big 'uns. I can already see it's going to get tougher but I guess it wouldn't be worth it if the whole course was easy peasy, right?

Hope you guys have had a lovely weekend. Today I'm going to stay in from the rain and do some work, and maybe listen to Queen on repeat.

£10 and under Secret Santa gifts

Saturday, November 10, 2018

It's finally time to talk about Christmas. I'm not doing gift guides this year, but I did want to put together a Secret Santa guide because I'm actually doing Secret Santa this year and could do with the inspiration. I've featured a handful of items here that will hopefully appeal to everyone, and everything is £10 and under so will suit all budgets.

I will be talking a little more about Christmas in my next 'everyday life' post which should be up either tomorrow or Monday.

Happy shopping!
