Jam jars & hungry ducks at Clumber Park

Monday, February 29, 2016

My mum and I went for a walk this morning around Clumber. I loved seeing the daffodils and snowdrops and watching the squirrels (and ducks) eat their breakfast. And no trip to a National Trust site is complete without going to the gift shop - I'm naturally drawn to the food section.

Suggested reading: Wes Anderson Tributes on Miss Moss. I'd die for one of those watercolour dioramas.

New albums & new monthly mags

Sunday, February 28, 2016

Listening to: The 1975's new album. It's very different to their first album - this one's got more of a funky chillwave vibe rather than a pop rock one. Give it a listen on iTunes.

I've decided that The Simple Things magazine is going to be my new monthly. Obsessed with the aesthetics and down to earth content. Picked the March issue up yesterday.

Mattress shopping & almost forgetting my own birthday

Saturday, February 27, 2016

Today I'm on a mission to buy a replacement mattress and to find a shop in my hometown that sells The 1975's new album. Wish me luck.

I received my first birthday card in the post this morning. Because I've been so focused on dropping out of uni and moving back home for the last couple of weeks, my birthday has hardly even crossed my mind. It's in four days and I don't have any plans, but I don't mind. I'm just happy to be at home.

Dropping out & moving home

Friday, February 26, 2016

This is my last day living in York. On Wednesday I handed in my university withdrawal form. I won't go into the details, but it turns out uni just isn't for me. For my health and happiness, I decided to leave and I feel better for it. I'm going to miss York a lot, but I can't say I'm not looking forward to going home and being with my family.

For the last couple of days I've been packing and there's currently a sea of bags at the foot of my bed. There must be about ten bags already and I haven't even packed up my towels, bedding, food, cookware, or half of my clothes. I didn't realise how much stuff I'd accumulated since being here, it's ridiculous.

So that's what I'm doing today. I should be back home by noon and then I suppose I'll be spending the rest of my day (or life) unpacking.

These shorts for Burt's Bees are adorable. The music and the animation is so lovely.

Antique wedding dresses & a fantastic scone recipe

I stumbled across these gorgeous wedding photos on Pinterest today and I love them so much. Honestly the most beautiful wedding dress colour and setting I've ever seen.

Sunny gardens & a soundtrack purchase

Tuesday, February 23, 2016

I walked around town for about two hours today and I think I've worn my feet down to the bone. Doesn't seem like a long time but I swear I must have covered most of York city centre twice over.

After nipping into uni for an hour in the early afternoon, I wandered down to the Museum Gardens and admired the flowers while the sun was still out. The weather here has been incredible so far this week, I'm so pleased because York is usually very wet and grey. Town also seems more peaceful after 3pm. There's more traffic but fewer people.

Unrelated, but I picked up the Pride & Prejudice (2005) soundtrack from HMV on my way home. Miraculously they had one copy left. Currently listening to it as we speak.

Urban Outfitters & chilly walks

York Minster | York Art Gallery | View of the Minster from King's Square

As luck would have it, I woke up to blue sunny skies this morning and headed out at 9am in need of a McDonald's breakfast. After that I just wandered about, went up to the Minster, the art gallery, all the way up Bootham (gorgeous architecture up there but didn't take any photos), and all around the town centre and finally ended up in Urban Outfitters gazing at overpriced clothes.

Oh, and in between all that I visited the Disney Store and picked up a sleeping Dumbo Tsum Tsum to add to my ever-growing collection. It's cold and very windy, but aside from that this morning has been lovely. I'm glad I dragged myself out of bed and made the most of the sunshine.

Unpacking & a new Pinterest board

Sunday, February 21, 2016

Started experimenting with VSCO filters recently. I love this edit of a photo I took last September using the A6 filter, thought it'd be a nice photo to feature.

As we speak I am back in York sitting at my desk having just finished unpacking with my mum. I spent the whole morning watching The Last Leg so I'm going to get into my pyjamas and carry on as I started.

I also started a new Pinterest board the other day called Slow living. It's a really therapeutic board to work on and is essentially photos of what I hope my life will be like in the future - lots of peace, solitude, reading, sleeping, and exploring. Simple and good. Feel free to follow me, I use Pinterest a lot.

Cold days at home & some light reading

Saturday, February 20, 2016

Photo taken last December, Polaroid frame added in Afterlight

It's freezing outside so I'm staying in and doing some light reading. I'm thoroughly enjoying this glorious pink satin bomber jacket on Hannah Louise Fashion, Hotel Henriette's interiors on Bliss, and photography by Parker Fitzgerald over on Miss Moss.

I'm going back to York tomorrow and the week ahead is going to be a tricky one so I am feeling a bit apprehensive. Things will all become clear soon.

The City of York: a film by Hewitt & Walker

Friday, February 19, 2016

Image via andyspictures

York based filmmakers Hewitt & Walker have recently made a short film showcasing York and its attractions, history, and people. I really love the drone footage; those shots of the Minster and Clifford's Tower are breathtaking. You can read more about the film here.

It is seriously so beautiful, please do check it out. York is a stunning city and this film highlights everything I love about it.

Castle spotting & views of the Peaks

Thursday, February 18, 2016

View of Sheffield from Harthill, South Yorkshire

The ride to Chesterfield is always a pretty one. You get to Mastin Moor and there's a huge hill where you can see sweeping views of the Peak District and Sheffield. It's glorious especially when the sun is shining as it was today. We even saw Bolsover Castle which you can spot from the top of the hill if the sky is clear enough. I would have taken photos but you would have hardly been able to see the castle because it's so far away. I could barely see it even with my glasses on.

On the way back we took the route via Harthill where I took the photo above - you can see the Peaks very faintly at the back and what I think is the edge of Sheffield just in front of them.

I also picked up the latest issue of The Simple Things today because it looks like a really chilled out magazine. The interior and travel articles are my favourites and the photography is so wonderful and inspiring.

Colourful reflections & a beachy blog post recommendation

Stained glass window reflections in Southwell Minster (bottom right) and York Minster

Not having a particularly exciting week so I thought I'd feature some colourful throwback photos to cheer up this dull day.

Suggested morning reading: The Londoner's latest Tulum post, packed with gorgeous photos of white beaches, sparkling oceans, and the tremendous Mayan ruins.

Spring flowers & being a homebody

Sunday, February 14, 2016

Nothing chills me out or makes me happier than being at home. When I moved into university halls last September I found myself missing weird things like baths, candles, and natural light. I didn't expect luxury when I moved into halls but it really does make me feel grateful for what I have at home.

When I go back to York next weekend I'm going to buy a plant and attempt to brighten up the place, but while I'm still at home I'm going to have as many baths as I can, surround myself with candles, and wait for my fresh daffodils to bloom.

Home for the week & making big decisions

Saturday, February 13, 2016

I had plans to stay in York over the weekend (and see Deadpool on Valentine's Day), but something's come up and I'm going home for a week. I've got some serious decisions to make this coming week and I'd prefer to be at home to make them. The above photo I took some time in January on a painfully cold but gorgeously crisp and bright afternoon.

Blue skies & reading among the ruins

Thursday, February 11, 2016

Today I woke up to the most beautiful blue sky I've ever seen in York since I moved here in September. I got dressed and wandered to the Museum Gardens at around 10am where I sat opposite St Mary's Abbey ruins and read a couple of pages of Paradise Lost in the stunning peace and quiet. I then walked up to the Minster and went through Dean's Park, taking the route past St William's College to take the picture above.

Aside from a couple of house viewings in the afternoon and walking around York being a tourist, I didn't do a great deal else.

Introducing my new blog...

Wednesday, February 10, 2016

My set up in the university library (feat. Zebra Mildliners) | Cinema ticket for Star Wars: The Force Awakens | A BB-8 flash drive | Disney Pop! Vinyl figures in Norwich | Another shot of my set up in the library (different day) | Victoria's Secret Secret Charm body mist | A light dusting of snow | Clifford's Tower, York | My feet!

I have been using this Tumblr as a blog for just over a year now, but for a couple of months I've been thinking about transferring a lot of my original posts over to a more traditional blogging platform. I tend to take a lot of photos on my phone that I do post to my Tumblr but sometimes they get lost among the quotes and aesthetic posts. I thought it would be a nice idea to have a blog that I can keep updated with personal photos and occasional writing posts instead of cluttering my Tumblr.

Above are some of the photos I've taken on my phone in the last two months. Since I study in York, there's a lot of York city snaps as well as a couple from Norfolk and home.

If you'd like to find me elsewhere, I am on:
